I have to be honest and say that I did find it very weird when I walked out of my flat last week, to hear christmas songs blaring out of another flats windows. It just didn't feel right, especially as it was quite sunny and warm that day. Whether its shops putting things up in windows earlier and earlier each year, fooling us into thinking its christmas time, or whether it's just jolly people getting into the spirit early, I'm not quite ready to hear xmas songs just yet.
I don't mean to sound scroogey, about this it's just that when you hear about christmas and start thinking it's just round the corner, you tend to slow down and not get on with things like normal. This year especially, because I'm now at uni, with essays and presentations to do all the way up til mid december, I don't want to ease up until its done and out of the way.
For many people there are signs that suggest its not long till christmas, like it either getting colder, it getting darker earlier, it snowing...but for me its seeing the classic Coke Cola christmas advert. This is another thing about this time of year that has happened for as long as I can remember, and to me symbolises that christmas isn't far away. Imagine my devastation then, when several years ago they decided to not to play it anymore. They did this for one year, but due to the outrage it not being on, decided to reintroduce it the following year.
One problem I have with this symbol this year, is you need to watch t.v in order to see it. Being in my own flat now at uni, I barely ever watch t.v unless its one of the rare time I watch it online. Supposedly, from what I gathered from facebook, the advert was played for the first time this year, a couple of days ago on saturday evening and a few times since then, and I missed them all.
Perhaps its a good thing though that I've missed it so far. Like I said, this year university work comes first before christmas. I just hope that I'll be able to get all my work done and out of the way before I start getting distracted by anything christmasy.
