RAPTURE! Are you prepared?

Everyone still here? I'm not quite up to date with all things rapture related, but wasn't the rapture meant to have started by now, will I still have time to grab a few hours sleep before all hell freezes over and the zombies come for me? When i first heard about this story last week, I immediately thought there cant be a single person who believes this, that Jesus would come down to save all the true believers, then the rest of us would be left on earth for the next five months fighting off zombies trying to survive. But oh how wrong I was, like usual the Americans came in to save the day. To my surprise I found out that the American CDC have released a guide on how to prepare for a zombie Apocalypse, which includes a brief history on Zombies and checklist of essentials you will need around the house.

When you think of this rapture, do you think of yourself as one of the people leaving for heaven, or a person who'll be sticking round to hold the fort against the undead?? Weirdly, if it did happen, I would really like to be part of the humans left on Earth, so I could see what the world turns into, and help out with the zombie defense. If it did hypothetically happen, all I know is I wouldn't want to go without a fight, and I wouldn't give up on other people. I've definitely thought about this a bit too much today.

This doomsday prediction came about after Harold Camping; an 89 year old evangelical broadcaster, complied information within several biblical texts to come up with today's date. After finding out this date he then passed on this prediction to his radio followers, which eventually got the attention of the general press, however this isn't Harold Campings first doomsday prediction. Harold also made the same statement back in 1994, saying that the rapture would occur then, although when that date came and went, he along with his followers said that the 1994 date only referred to an intermediary stage, and the actual apocalypse would come later. From this change in story, I'm guessing Harold now has the correct date and so if we are all alive tomorrow, he will be out of excuses, and I'm assuming slightly embarrassed.

Would like to say, I'm not in anyway having a go at peoples beliefs, or saying whether God does or doesn't exist, I'm just trying to get my head around the fact that there are loads of people out there now, who have accepted that today is their last day, who are ready to be taken away, and are willing to leave neighbours, friends, maybe even members of their family behind. I know for the people that would be taken to heaven, it would be amazing and they would be saved, but if you were one of those people, would you not find it unfair that others are left behind??

Before I leave, I just want to leave you with this news clip from the BBC news website:
An Atheist and entrepreneur from New Hampshire, Bart Centre, is enjoying a boost in business for Eternal Earth-bound Pets, which he set up to look after the pets of those who believe they will be raptured.
He has more than 250 clients who are paying up to $135 (£83) to have their pets picked up and cared for after the rapture.
They would be disappointed twice, he told the Wall Street Journal. "Once because they weren't raptured and again because I don't do refunds."

Back to basic's

This I think, is only going to be a short blog, because I just wanted to write out a few thoughts quickly, about my blog as a whole. Lately I've noticed that my blog reviews of things such as films, the Apprentice and Doctor Who, are now largely outnumbering my everyday personal blogs. Now I don't particularly mind this because I do really like watching them, and then writing out those short reviews afterwards, however I've also noticed that I've been getting slightly busier, due to work, going out, and meeting up with friends.

Having less time as of late, to write blogs, I thought that it would be best to cut back on writing reviews and focus more on my personal everyday blogs. I also feel that I want to concentrate more on these blogs, because that was my main reason of creating this site in the first place, so that i could write down, 'thoughts and feeling from my everyday life'. Soo... from now on I'm going to be cutting back on my review blogs, meaning there might not be weekly reviews of both Doctor Who and The Apprentice, but instead maybe every other week, or I might add a very short review to the end of a personal blog. However if you have a favourite out of those two programmes and you'd rather I kept writing normal weekly reviews on that specific one please say and will make it happen.

Not all bad news though, I will defiantly write up the previous episode of Doctor Who, as I promised and also the episode airing this weekend. More good news, by cutting back on these review blogs, I'll be able to write more of my normal personal blogs, hopefully giving you more of an insight into whats happening in my world, and how life is. Anyways best be off, dinner wont cook itself.... unless, you know, your having microwavable food.

Oh before i go, I just wanted to mention that a couple friends of mine will be doing the Yorkshire Three peaks in a few weeks to help raise money for Heart research, will post the link to their fundraising website below. Please if you have some time, check it out, and if your feeling generous, please donate anything you can to help, Thank you

Events from last week

Normal non-nerdy blog day today! Try saying that quickly, I did, bit of a tongue twister. Anyways there were a few things that happened last week that I wanted to talk about, but didn't manage to fit in anywhere, so I thought I'd recap them all today. As its me, and I like things neat and organised, I thought I'd do this in order, so.....

Tuesday - This was the inevitable day when my mum received her new HTC Desire Z phone, as her old phone contract is about to run out. Now I don't mean it in a bad way but whenever there are new gadgets such as mp3 players, games consoles, laptops, etc... I am usually called upon to help figure them out and show members of my family how they work, Tuesday was no expectation. When it comes to electronics, I'd say that I'm fairly adaptive, and I'm able to pick things up quite quickly, however in the case of my family, the majority of them aren't. Having heard about these phones but not used one before, it came as quite a surprise to me when we charged it up, turned it on, and then flicked through to the main menu. This phones main menu was full of shortcuts, apps, directories, folders, everything packed into this one main menu, we then later found out that in addition to this, anything you downloaded from the android app market would then have its own shortcut added to the main menu, making even more app shortcuts appear. This HTC Windows phone really is like a mini computer.

Towards the end of last year I got myself a Blackberry Curve 3G 9300, which now I don't think I could live without, I use my phone for everything from checking Twitter on a very regular basis, to listening to music, to tracking how far I jog, to uploading these blogs by e-mail. Having gotten so used to my Blackberry, this HTC phone shocked me because there are so many duplicated features on the phone. An example of this is that there are two contact lists, one under the name of 'people' and one under 'search people', now you'd think Jack one of them is for searching your contacts, but oh no, you can search in the 'people' list, the main difference we could see was that one had sync'd in all your social network contacts and tried to merge them with the original contacts. Not quite sure how to explain it in a less complicated way, trust me took me a while to get my head round it at first. To summarise, this brilliant feature of your phone syncing social network contacts, actually left you with duplicate numbers, duplicate names, contacts with incorrect information, and tuned out to be a waste of time.

I know so far I've only seemed to mention bad things about this phone, because truthfully I think there were quite a few, and in all honesty they could strip away half of the features on the phone and it would actually improve it, however there were some good features of this phone. As I havent had chance to use an android phone up till now, I was really impressed by how many apps they had in their market, specifically the apps that were orginally made for the Ipods and Iphones, such as Angry Birds, Tap Tap, and other touch screen applications. Overall, I might be slightly biased when saying this, but I still think that the Blackberry 'as a phone' beats this new HTC model hands down. The Blackberry seems just to be made more for the, on the move usage, hence 'mobile', where as with the HTC phone, I feel like you should be sitting down somewhere, and having to concentrate on what your doing. Anyways it was quite fun having a look through the new phone, nothing beats flicking through a new gadget, and we did end up deciphering most of the phone after a couple of days, so it should hopefully all be working now.

Wednesday - Don't want to say too much about it, but Orienteering didn't go down exactly as we'd hoped. I think we thought that on wednesday we'd be able to turn up after a year, and all we'd be is in slightly less shape but still fine, however to cut a long story short, it was boiling, its hay fever season, our courses were longer because for the first time we had to do the adult course and so I ended up kicking my Asthma back up, and Matty although he still did well, didnt get as many as I think he wanted too. Not giving up though, were missing out this weeks event, due to us both being at work, but were off to the event the following week to see how we get on then.

Thursday - On thursday evening, my brother and me went to an event that I'd been looking forward to for a while, which was a James Bond themed night held at the Grand Hotel, hosted by Matty and other members of his course at college. For an occasion such as this my brother and me both got dressed up in suits, smart shoes the whole malarky, which I do have to tell you, feels very weird walking round the streets of Scarborough in, at about 8 o'clock on a thursday evening, with the sun still out. The evening seemed to be a hugh success, everyone really enjoyed themselves, and as an added bonus they managed to raise alot of money for the childrens ward at the local hospital. I do have to say, congradulations to Matty and his friends, for doing such a good job, especially seeing as how they were on a limited budget, but managed to convice the hotel to give them the massive ballroom for free, and getting local business's to donate loads of free raffle prizes for the event.

This occasion also gave me the chance to catch up with some old friends from college that I hadn't seen in a while, and also an old teacher from college who I'd not seen in a while called Mr Sharples, who I got to have a long chat with, because he was there doing the photography, again donating his time for free to help in raising money. The only thing I would say that was slightly suspicious that evening was how, when it came it picking the winning raffle tickets, Matty coincidently had three out of about twelve of the winning tickets, hmm.......must just be coincidence.

Weekend - For my family the weekend consisted mainly of watching films like Home Alone 1, 2,  and Die Hard 4.0 and t.v programmes, such as Eurovision, Doctor Who, Britains got Talent, and others all on over these two days. Was quite a nice relaxing weekend in the end.
Just have to add quickly, I havent yet had chance to write up my review of the latest Doctor Who episode, I will get round to it in the next few days, although it was amazing, if you havent yet watched it, go watch it now, the series just keeps getting better.
