What I mean about being unique places, is that they are very emotional places, where so many different things can happen to you.
Waiting at York station last week, waiting for my train, I witnessed a number of parents, children, couples, friends all saying goodbye to each other, hugging and waving as they left that person until the next time they returned.
Saying this there were also numerous moments of the complete opposite, children arriving back home to their parents, couples being reunited, and old friends meeting up once more.
The reason I'm talking about this is because it's something I guess people never really consider. How many times have you gone to the train station and left it feeling either completely happy that someone is back in your life, or sad because someone has just left?
As well as being happy and sad places, they are also places of utter surprise, from the good to the bad. Starting with the bad, in recent years there have been several problems occurring in train stations with regards to suspicious packages, police being called out, etc... All of which if they happened to me I'm sure would take me very much by surprise.
Moving quickly on to the good type of surprises train stations hold, starting small, how many times have you gone to the train station after a busy day at work expecting the train to be packed and having to stand up all the way back home? Although I think that this will happen to me quite a lot of the time, such as right this second whilst I'm stood up in-between train carriages, you will occasionally find that the train is surprisingly almost empty. During these times you don't now have to stand up, and you have a surprisingly enjoyable journey home.
To the bigger, probably less often good surprises, I wonder how many people have met on a train or in a station. How many people are now friends or couples because one day they decided to strike up a conversation with someone stood up or sat next to them. Makes you wonder.
If your reading this and you never really noticed all of these things before, next time your at a train station take a good look round, and see what new things you can see.
