This week is going to be another quick short blog, as revision and exams continue to take up my time and stress me out as they always do. What I want to talk about though actually kind of ties into the whole issue of stress and procrastination, and that is buying things online.
Over the last few weeks one of the main ways that I have been procrastinating from doing revision or finishing up assessments is to go online, on amazon, eBay, the book depository, etc.... And to search through these sites for things that I'd like to buy and then add them to my checkout baskets. Now most of the time this is harmless because I'm not actually buying them I'm just adding them to the baskets so that in the future if I have enough money i can come back and get them. Saying this however, I have been noticing an increase in how much I am actually buying online, but most importantly the amount of things that i have been buying that I don't actually need, so more spur of the moment/luxury type buys.
These things aren't massive or expensive things, just small items like books, posters, games....stuff like that. The reason I've been noticing these purchases more are A) because my bank balance has been going down alot, and B) because I notice now when I don't get post during the week. Having noticed this new 'hobby' of mine to buy things online, I tried to think about why I've been doing it, and all I can think of is because I've been bored. Is it bad that to pass the time I'm spending money and getting things that I don't necessarily need but will use or read if I had them?
If it's not then I guess I have nothing to worry about, if it is then maybe I could say these purchases are 'rewards' for doing all of this work and revision.
A small side note, a short while before writing this blog, my computer battery began to act up, meaning that I might possibly have to buy another one in order to get my laptop to work. Why do we never really notice how dependent on technology we are until things stop working and breakdown? I really hope that the battery is able to fix itself, or atleast just hold on for another week.
