I feel that I'm quite fortunate to have enough money for when I start university next year, through having been a bit scrupulous and saving up over this last year. Because of this any money that I make over the summer will in a way become 'excess' money, money that I can use to do things during the summer, put towards less essential university things next year, or add to my small amount of savings, without fearing that I don't have money to pay the rent next year.
With all of this in mind, when looking for a summer job, I felt I could be a bit choosy, to try to find something that'll add something different to my c.v, or that will provide useful work experience for when I apply for jobs in the future.
After numerous hours surfing job sites, looking in shop windows and temp agency boards, not just this week but increasingly since finishing university, I've discovered that there aren't as many part-time, or holiday time jobs, as you'd think. Obviously because of the way things are at the moment, jobs are even more important to keep and to hold on to and so there aren't as many vacancies appearing as there used to be. Although this is a bit of a hiccup I'm going to try and persevere, and continue to send off applications and hand-in c.v's, hopefully ending in me getting something quite soon.
There is one big problem that I've encountered recently however, and that is my brother. As we are both out of university for the summer and both looking for jobs, we're constantly seeing the same vacancies and applying for them and so are competing over the few available roles.
Although there doesn't seem to be that many jobs appearing at the moment, it is still June, and loads of schools still have three weeks/a month before they break up for summer. Hopefully something will pop up in the next few weeks.
