Building my own PC!

For a while now I have had this small dream to be able to buy a load of PC components and build my own custom PC rig. This dream spawned because of my interests in gaming, gadgets and tech, and grew more and more every time I did research into the subject or went to price check some components.

It was about this time last year, that I actually came into a little bit of money and decided to buy my own desktop PC, that had some upgraded components compared to my laptop and meant that I could play better games, run more programmes, etc...and I also was able to recapture that experience of using a desktop PC everyday, just like we had to do during school. I was also one of the few who took ICT all the way through secondary and A-level, meaning that I spent even more time then normal on a PC doing computer related work.

Having now gotten my own desktop PC, that goal of building a PC was somewhat quenched, however it wasn't long before it returned, and I began again to watch videos about how to install PC components and research all the different products out on the market.

Fast forward to last Saturday, i'd spent some time seeing how much money I had this term, after food and rent, etc... And decided now was the time to follow through on this dream, and so I began. I bought one component on Saturday, some on Sunday, the last few on Monday, and all of this week have been getting couriers dropping the various pieces off at my door. The last and one of the most crucial arriving today.

Fast forward to a few hours ago, I've spent about half of the day, carefully piecing everything together, double checking all of the wiring, tying up all of the cables to make it look more presentable, and then powering it up and installing all of the necessary software. Whether it was luck or some skill on my part, everything is working. I now have my own, amazing looking custom built PC, which I can't wait to continue testing and trying out.

I know I sound exceedingly nerdy talking about all of this stuff, however due to having some concentration problems and not feeling entirely myself recently (all stuff for another blog), it was nice to have something that held my focus and allowed me to fully concentrate, whilst at the same time being something that was enjoyable to do. It may have cost me a bit more then I expected but I can easily say that it was worth every penny.

Surely everyone has these moments that I have had today. Whether it be wanting to buy and build a PC, or paying for and completing your driving test, or buying an expensive coffee maker so you can finally enjoy your nice posh coffee. They may not all be life changing things, but they still help to make you feel good or to feel like you've done something or progressed somehow. You don't always have to focus on the big picture stuff, the little things are important too.

As its Sunday tomorrow and i'm feeling good, I think I'm going to give myself permission to have the day off. Maybe time for some video games, or perhaps watch a new film, or to start again on my ever growing 'to read' book pile.

Don't know if I've mentioned it yet but i know have another blog, which hopefully ill post more about on here, just want to give it some time and get it off the ground first, so watch out for that soon.
