Family get together

Today a number of my family members descended upon the Broadway hotel in Letchworth to celebrate my Grandads 80th birthday.

Every time there's one of these big family get together we always say that we won't wait until the next big gathering to meet up, but life and things always happen. Because of this, these gatherings always tend stray away from what the event is actually meant to be, in this instance a surprise birthday party and becomes a place where everyone catches up and recalls everything that happened since the last meet up.

These family gatherings, on most occasions also tend to have moments of family drama, which as long as it doesn't involve you, can be very entertaining.

Within the last few of these gatherings, when my cousins have come with there other halves and children, my mum has started to 'subtly' hint at my sister about the idea of also getting married and potential producing grand kids, and to me about getting together with someone. Our responses to these have so far been, nod and say yes, while thinking in my own time.

The festivities started off slightly rocky due to things getting a bit chaotic and people running late, but when everything settled down, everyone seemed to have a really nice time.

It is slightly awkward, that we don't actually see quite a few members of our family, and then when these gatherings come around we have to go through the whole what have you been up to since we last spoke. Its not particularly awkward in a bad way, just that we're not all random people meeting up, we're family members, we just don't get to see each other much and we're useless at keeping in regular contact.

As I said it was a nice afternoon, and something a bit different from the usual weekend schedule.

Time to head back into London again tomorrow, to go meet up with some other people and spend some time exploring the British Museum.
