Today, as the title suggests, I'm continuing with my series of blogs delving into my favourite things of the year. As I've said before I'm doing this partly to try and discover what my favourite things are and also to keep a record, so that I can compare at a later date what and how things have changed.
This week I'm looking at my favourite books of all time. Books are something I've had a lifelong interest in. There's nothing quite like discovering a great book, wanting to take any spare moment to continue reading, and then slowing down as you get towards the end because you want the experience to last a little longer.
This interest in reading, is similar to some of my other interests, in that there were periods where I didn't read that much. I had quite a longer period of this up until about a few years ago, and since then have been going back reading older books that I somehow passed early on, and trying to keep up with new and relevant books.
Books I find are quite different from things like movies and songs, although there are loads of really good books, favourites are hard to come by and so the list hasn't changed that much. I feel this because when you think about your favourite books, it isn't just about the story, it brings back memories about where you were when you read it, things going on in your life around that time and other surrounding feelings. Hopefully this makes sense.
This years list again will consist of my top ten books, and to stop myself from writing down multiple books from one series, I'm only allowing myself to write down my favourite of that series even if there are more.
In order of most favourite to still favourite, here is my favourite books of all time as it stands at the end of 2013:
1) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - J.K. Rowling
2) The Fault In Our Stars - John Green
3) Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stevenson
4) The City Of Ember - Jeanne DuPrau
5) The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
6) Looking For Alaska - John Green
7) Alice In Wonderland - Lewis Caroll
8) The Cuckoos Calling - J.K. Rowling
9) Rivers Of London - Ben Aaronovitch
10) The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Some new ones in their that I discovered this year but for the most part they couldn't be displaced. Unfortunately the majority of books I read this year were for university or assigned by my lecturers. Hopefully next year I'll have more chance to read more on my personal to read list. There's so many books and so little time.
If you want to get back into reading or are just looking for your next good book, pick up any of these and give them a try.
