The past few days have been some of the busiest and most exhausting days in recent memory for me, and ironically the majority of it has been me just standing around in queues.
My plans for this week were essentially, really early Thursday morning head down to London, spend all day at EGX, then come home in the evening. Friday, rest up a bit, write up some stuff for a new article, then in the afternoon/evening head down to London to meet up with some people, then come back. And finally today, do the same as Thursday.
All of that did kind of go according to that schedule, however I feel I significantly underestimated how tired I'd get during the day whilst in London. Moving on from that little rant though.
This years EGX was even better than last years, and the years before combined, mainly because for the first time ever I went as a member of the press, meaning I could get into the press area. No other real benefits other then that but that's still awesome.
One of the best parts of the whole expo had to be when I interviewed Mike Bithell, a British game creator, with a new game called Volume soon to come out. I did get a little bit flustered at times, however it was really fun and I actually learnt quite a bit that didn't come up in my research.
Along the same lines as this, I also went to a press only event held by Square Enix, in a pub around the corner from the expo hall, where we were treated to an exclusive look at a new game, as well as our own private demos we could play without any queuing.
This year was also a really good year for getting a load of free t-shirts/goodies/swag. There was also tonnes of stuff there that I would happily have taken home if I had the money. Hopefully next year I'll be able to return with more goodies, both free and bought.
Even though there was lotsss of people there on both days that I went, I did manage to play quite a few games and not have to queue up to too long, especially compared to Tue amount of queueing I had to do last year. Definite game highlights had to be Evolve, the AC Unity trailer and demo, Alien Isolation, which was very creepy, and Life Is Strange.
Even though there's still one day left, which I'm not off too, I know can't wait for next years EGX.
