It's that time of year again when I decide to make several lists displaying my favourite things in a certain subject, so that hopefully in the future I can look back and see what I was thinking back then and how my taste has changed over time.
It's quite strange actually, having these records of your taste in things over time, they do actually show more of an insight then you'd think they would. Looking back at last years and then quickly at the couple of years before that, because yes I have been making these favorite lists for about four years now, there are definite songs that are repeatedly on this list. Which is a good thing I think, it means that some of my core music is standing the test of time but new tracks still keep popping in and out depending on how I am that year.
I have again this year, somehow managed to cut down my entire list of songs to my top 15, and I feel like I can say that doing that this year was even harder then last time. Unfortunately due to the difficulty of this task I have not like last year been able to rank them from most favourite to least most favourite.
And so without further a due, here is this years list of my top favourite songs of 2014:
1) Alexi Murdoch - All my days,
2) Owl City - Alligator Sky,
3) The Jack Frost Band - Have a little faith,
4) Robert Post - Got none,
5) One Republic - Secrets,
6) Skrillex - Bangarang,
7) HOGNI - Bow Down (to no man),
8) Imagine Dragons - On top of the world,
9) Steve Earle - The Galway Girl,
10) Counting Crows - Accidentally in love,
11) Astronaut - Champions,
12) Flo-Rida (feat David Guetta) - Club can't handle me,
13) Rolling Stones - You can't always get what you want,
14) Goo Goo Dolls - I'm still here,
15) Cinematic Orchestra - To build a home.
As a way of cutting the list down, this year I have only included one song from an artist, as last year there were a few songs on the list with the same artist and I felt this took up a couple of valuable spaces. So basically to help me choice I'm going with the mindset, if the artist makes it on to the list theres no need to mention them again as they have already made the cut.
There once again are probably a few songs that I forgot about, or accidentally skipped over but as I'm happy with this final list, I don't really mind.
Having gone through this process, actually properly listening to all of my songs again has somewhat rejuvenated my love of music again and would love to rediscover old favourites as well as completely new songs. And so if anyone ever reads this and has any recommendations then I'd be happy to hear them. Oddly only having just made this list, I'm strangely looking forward to next years already. We'll see how things have changed.
